How long have you been a student at The Reed Academy of Martial Arts?
I began taking private lessons from Sifu Reed in June 2003. I joined the group classes in April 2004. I had previously trained with Guro Ted Lucaylucay, Sifu Larry Hartsell, and Sifu Richard Bustillo while living in California in the mid 1980’s early 1990’s. I had also attended a number of seminars with Guro Dan Inosanto.
How has The Reed Academy changed your life?
The philosophical teachings of Sijo Bruce Lee have totally changed my life. People who knew me years ago are often amazed at the transformation in my approach to living life. I truly believe in, “Having no limitation as limitation” and “always being in process and never a finished product.” Applying these concepts to my life, I returned to college recently and graduated with my Bachelor’s Degree at the age of 55. The Reed Academy carries on the teachings of Sijo Lee helping us to not only grow as martial artists but also to become the best we can be as individuals.
What do you enjoy most about the Reed Academy?
The great atmosphere. Everyone I have met has been friendly, courteous, and helpful. “Ego” has no place here, and the family environment is wonderful.
What thoughts would you share with someone considering joining or resuming with the Reed Academy?
For those considering: You begin to expand and grow only when you are willing to forget ego and insecurity to explore the unknown. Give it a try; it could change your life
For those resuming: Welcome back. Persevere, enjoy, and grow.
If you were to recommend the Reed Academy to a friend, what would you tell them?
I have been involved in the martial arts (both classical and non-classical) off and on since 1963. If you’re interested in the martial arts and looking for a place to train, this is it! It doesn’t get any better.
